ISAF Sailing World Opens Up With Spectacular Inauguration At Abu Dhabi
ISAF Sailing World reportedly opened up with spectacular inauguration at Abu Dhabi, UAE. It was all smiles at Abu Dhabi Sailing and Yacht Club prior to racing and the opening day has been acknowledged as perfect and fantastic.
A north-westerly wind ranging between 9 to 14 shots welcomed the participants across the 4 race tracks. There were big waves that rendered a spicy flavor to the competition while flat water inside the Corniche course checked the all-round abilities of the sailors.
A huge group of 270 sailors has participated in the Abu Dhabi sailing championship from 38 countries. It was Vasilij Zbogar from Slovenia who seemed pretty dominant in the Abu Dhabi weather & smartly managed to pick up couple of race triumphs in Finn 19-boat fleet.
The Slovenian star was definitely pleased with is achievement yet he was little shocked with the regatta opening.
“I’m little surprised with 2 first places. The results were much better in comparison to what I anticipated. The conditions here were just perfect for me- my weight & technique- & my boat pace was immensely good. The major trouble was that they handed me this yellow flag during first race that was tad annoying yet I still managed to finish in the first place”, stated the champion sailor from Slovenia.
Vasilij’s triumphs came by varied margins. There was a close tiff with Australian Jake Lilley in opening race which saw the Slovenian snatching the win by just 2 seconds. Zbogar managed to ramp up in 2nd race where he was 30 seconds ahead of Netherland’s Pieter Postma. The winner wishes to keep up his winning pace in the 2nd day as well.
“I am hopeful that we would be able to enjoy the similar conditions again, he added in.
